The Drowned World (#4.01)

  Big Finish, Companion Chronicles

This is the sequel to Home Truths, with Robert visiting the house that now has Sara Kingdom’s personality duplicate merged into the house. The house that grants wishes. The surrounding story is Robert arguing her case with The Council, the law of the time, to let her survive or force her to leave/disperse. Robert has her recite a story of an adventure with the first Doctor and Stephen Taylor. He attempts to record the story, unsuccessfully, and the first part ends with her dispersing. Then Robert returns 11 years later to hear the rest of the story and ask her for a favor. The story ends with her asking him for something in exchange.

Does he stay, does he go? The price is a life either way so he must make a decision. The third installment deals with the aftermath of his decision. This story, however, of the world made up of a sentient ocean is quite the intriguing line into her psyche, exploring how Sara is honorable to a fault. She helps out the miners only to be ostracized for her contact with the sentient ocean. The Doctor steps in to solve the problem but it’s really about Sara’s struggles. And Robert is the one who returns to talk to her, unlike most of the people she’s seen in her days as a sentient house. How would she fight back if someone had come to harm her as a house? Can’t wait for the third in this trilogy!
