The Veiled Leopard

  Big Finish Special Release

It’s been a long time since I’ve heard Erimem in an adventure and this story made me remember how much I enjoyed her as a female buddy companion for Peri. They had a lot to teach each other and had fun being buddies until her seemingly abrupt departure. And though Hex has recently departed from the 7th Doctor stories the fallout from his departure is coming up in Afterlife in December. Hex definitely took a few strange turns in his adventure with the Doctor – he is definitely a different kind of nurse than Rory Williams! But he has a much longer history with the Doctor than Rory did. So it was fantastic to hear these companions together again and even interacting some, unknowingly. Good thing the Doctors didn’t come to the party.

The story is in 1966, there is a leopard stone which a mogul has at a party. This stone was prized and owned by Erimem’s father, going to his tomb with him. And apparently it also is a powerful alien artifact. Naturally. So Peri and Erimem are on hand to prevent the stone from falling into the wrong hands. And so are Ace and Hex. The teams go about it in their own style and with their individual methods. The story is very nicely done and a fun listen, suiting each team nicely. But it also lost me a bit with the Ace and Hex section as it was a lot more convoluted than the Peri – Erimem part of the story. Still good but not an ace in the hole, as it were…
