Big Finish - Special Release
Another Jago and Litefoot adventure as the Doctor “attempts” to take them all to a bar for some vittles. As usual, the TARDIS takes them where they need to be, not necessarily where they WANT to be. This one’s a bit confusing as the people are fading out of reality due to the parasites that have attached to them. Sir Walter Raleigh really has a rather intriguing destiny in this one. Croatoan is the one word left behind by the people who left the Roanoke Island colony and disappeared and this story explains this disappearance in the Doctor Who timeline.
I like how this all works through the TARDIS and the past and future coming together. But I do wonder how, after everything is corrected and time returns to normal, it explains the disappearance of the colonists. If the timeline’s fixed and they don’t fade away due to alien parasites, what happens instead? It’s a bit maddening that part of it but perhaps that for another story in the future. And I do wish the Doctor didn’t just leave the friends in the end, though there’s no denying that Big Finish was smart leaving them in an alien time, just so people like me will want to find out how they cope! Whatever happens next, I am quite sure that the two of them will do well together, though it may be difficult for them to adapt to a different social reality of a different time. Liked this one, just didn’t love it.
