Eldrad Must Die! (#172)

   Big Finish Main Range

I really, really enjoyed the first half of this story and how everything’s mysterious and misleading. Eldrad must die? Live? Which is it? Very intriguing and it kept me very into the story. Then the Doctor and Nyssa ended up on the boat with Kate and things went downhill for me. The next 15 minutes felt like there were missing chunks of conversation – the Doctor investigates the space ship and it sounds like Nyssa and Kate go with him. But then Mulkris walks by them but they don’t notice? And Turlough is wandering around with Tegan and things happen in fits and starts.

Things straighten out and the missing pieces don’t matter later on but it was disconcerting as I got lost in the story, which really pulled me out of it. And how gross is an eyeball in the forehead!? EWWWW. The crystal-berg is a cool detail as well as the people who don’t trust the Doctor – not your standard Doctor story! Usually the side characters just get that innate trust happening without much effort on the part of the Doctor. Not here! So the storyline works well until about the half-way mark when things get really strange and things start leaving me confused and lost.
