This story beings on the same vein as part I, without all of the reiteration of the facts. And it moves on quickly! Until we get to the rocket. Somehow the rocket and all of the details uncovered there just made it fall flat for me. Sure, it’s interesting and weird, even quite a bit gross, but the motivation is what? And it does want the rocket to take off but it doesn’t even have an engine! How’s it going to do that? I suppose something that size could just be mean and selfish, while other planet-sized entities the Doctor has dealt with are more benign, though definitely are thinking on a different level than the beings living on it.
The Doctor’s solution to the problem is dependent on a psychopath’s sense of self-preservation and that seems a bit risky… So I was not impressed with that solution, to say the least! Meh. So as much as it’s a good story, it’s just not as cool and fun as I was hoping for. But it’s still very good! Just a bit odd in a way I couldn’t appreciate. And yes Doctor, you forgot something. But will that pan out in the future? We shall see.
