Big Finish Main Range
The bizarre circumstances of Purity are all melded together – the takers, the people, and the ghosts. The resolution with the ghosts is a bit mysterious to me -- not sure why they do what they do. There’s a quick explanation from the Doctor but it doesn’t gel with what they have whispered for so long. That is my biggest beef with this audio as there is plenty of mystery and as we see both groups with the Doctor solve different parts of the mystery, we figure it out sooner. One thing I do notice is that no one ever tells the Doctor what they’ve discovered yet he doesn’t need to know because he figures it out. Bugs me sometimes…
The central issue is fear, which Mertil uses to her advantage throughout the story. There is almost a “perfect storm” of circumstances which surround the people and activities on Purity. Strange goings on, suspicious natives, technology laying around… There are some very good cliffhangers but I only thought the Doctor was in real danger for the first one. Very creepy and mysterious throughout!
