Big Finish, Companion Chronicles
Liz Shaw talks through an adventure she had with the 3rd Doctor after she left UNIT, where she travels in time through a different device beside the TARDIS into 2014. There New Dawn is an organization with a grip on the future just about to come to fruition – a monstrous beast at the beck and call of its leader, a military, economic, and religious hold secured in Britain and possibly elsewhere. And the Doctor and Liz go on an “adventure” to stop the madness.
One thing I never, ever get is how companions expect the Doctor to object to the crazy schemes of the resident madman when they’re in his or her clutches. Shouldn’t he play along to find out the full extent of the crazy scheme they’ve hatched up? Or should they all object as well, never getting the opportunity to stop the madness? Sheesh. I would’ve thought companions were past that thunderstruck stage by now but I guess not. And I found the ending quite predictable – outside of the storytelling. I liked this adventure but rolled my eyes at the gullibility of Miss Shaw. Is she really that clueless about people all around?
