Big Finish, Fourth Doctor Series
There is a lot going on in this story and in a way, it’s sad to listen to as I know after the next story, there will be no more Romana #1 stories. But the adventure is good! I’m expecting a wiz-bang of a concluding story with The Final Phase as the Doctor defeats the Daleks once again. But that’s for next month. On with our story for this month!
Romana, The Doctor, and K-9 arrive on Proxima, the planet where Cuthbert had performed his experiment years before that resulted in the Laan landing on Earth, causing massive problems on the planet. Apparently Cuthbert has learned his lesson and is trying to be more humane by having a Dalek security force that only takes prisoners instead of exterminating them. His new experiment has shifted the orbit of Proxima and the remaining population is fighting back, though the Daleks are slowly destroying all resistance. So the Doctor is helping out on the planet with Romana on the orbiting space station with Cuthbert and the Dalek fleet.
And so our adventure resolves into another mission for the Doctor to stop the Daleks! Cuthbert is obviously the side show here though he doesn’t realize it yet in this story. I felt like I was just along for the ride, keeping up while things moved rapidly from scene to scene. This is one fast moving tale! And I really enjoyed the ride but it’s all build-up to anticipate the finale for this series. I can’t wait for July now!
