1963: The Assassination Games (#180)

    Big Finish Main Range

This story was pretty amazing with twists galore but the villains of the piece are a new bad guy called “The Light.” And that is where the disappointment lies. This story does a fantastic job of wrapping up the 1963 trilogy and putting the Doctor in various places, manipulating things to make everything work out alright in the end. Though the number of people involved in this story made it a bit confusing as well. Wait, who is that and which side are they on? I’m sure if I had listened to the Big Finish series for Countermeasures it might’ve been a little easier to figure out as they make up a large part of the cast. Too many voices to keep track of that sound very similar to me. They did a good job of using names enough to make it easier to keep track of but it still got me at times.

So this story starts with the Doctor and Ace being more background characters. The Countermeasures team is doing the leg work, tracking down bad guys and trying to stay alive. Meanwhile, there’s a plot in the British government to replace certain people so they can take over the government when the missiles launch. I won’t say more than that but partially because the ending gets a bit crazy. I do love the parts Ace and the Doctor play in this story but the story swirling around them is over the top at times. And possibly my confusion lies in not knowing the British parliamentary system. Still a fantastic story!
