The Other Woman (5.11)

Big Finish - Short Trips Season 5

Why do the companions have ZERO faith in the Doctor ever? They are always looking to save him or help him but it always seems to be when he has a plan in place and can handle whatever’s going on. ARGH. Well, at least it seems to happen to Jo Grant a lot. Sigh. That is my biggest complaint but perhaps it’s just a snapshot of the times that the John Pertwee Doctor was on TV. It drives me crazy, though.

A coy, alluring alien female shows up at UNIT one day after her spaceship is found in a farmer’s woods. She seems to take in all of the men there, getting them to do whatever she needs just by batting her eyelids. Apparently she’s just a fugitive from justice who has a whole host of crimes. I just have to say I’m not impressed with her ability to do criminal activities as she just stole some art from Earth and has the desiccated corpses of her ex-husbands. The Doctor has faced down far worse criminals and villains than this woman, all the while pretending to be on their side. And Jo has seen that happen before! So why does she go on like the Doctor can’t handle himself? Perhaps I’m just used to more competent Doctors of her future. Or jealousy just made her vapid and unable to think.
