Big Finish, Companion Chronicles Special Release
This is an old release that was re-released with The Light at the End special 50th Anniversary CD release. And though I’m not exactly sure why they chose this one, I was not disappointed. Ian and Barbara walk out onto Orkney, an island protected by the Wissfornjarl. The TARDIS takes off before they can do much but look around and they’re left alone in the waning light. They head towards a light, crossing a stream, and entering a deep dark bog, which is the site of a spaceship crash many eons ago, they later discover. Along with the Doctor, who landed separately from them and has spent some pleasant years with Janet, the local witch. And the Marsh Waines are coming for them! All of this he is telling Jeannie, a relative of Janet’s, in the modern day while waiting for people to arrive.
I really enjoyed this story, though I’m not sure why Ian is just telling this to a random person. Plus he refers to Barbara as his colleague (a story there!) though they’re helping each other and holding hands in the story. And there is mysterious music at the end, which portends something perhaps but I can’t figure what. That’s the only thing that made me wonder what I missed… Otherwise I found this story riveting and intense. Very well done!
