Kingdom of Lies (#234)

   Big Finish Main Range

This story is a bizarre tale of jealousy and spitefulness in the rulers of a planet. The Doctor, Nyssa, Adric, and Tegan land on a planet where there actually end up on opposite sides of a line that divides the world politically and physically. Somewhat lackluster husband versus waspish wife, both rather petty people. The Doctor is “recognized” as the Scorpion, an assassin hired to kill the wife by the husband. So intrigue ensues, with Tegan and Adric pretending to be assassins with the wife, Duchess Miranda, while the Doctor and Nyssa pretending to be assassins as well. It all goes well until, as expected, the REAL Scorpion shows up.

This story gets kind of crazy and political, which I didn’t like, but the twists and turns were fun to listen to. The Doctor makes a terrible assassin all around, I must say! Tegan would be much better at it, though not well disguised. And they all get their appropriate just deserts in the end. I really enjoyed the twist with Sebastian and Amelia, too. Great story but not really a favorite genre for me, which gives it the lower number.
