The Last Act (5.4)

Big Finish Jago and Litefoot Series

<spoilers in here so only read perhaps after you listen>

I have to admit that Guinevere Godiva isn’t much of a villain when it comes to the end game. Mr. Sin is as predictably unpredictable as ever in the end, as well as the “real” bad guy. I think that the lack of menace for Godiva comes from not finding out anything about her purpose and goals until the very end. If Greel is “talking” to her constantly, how come we so no signs of this? And Greel himself is a bit together for someone who has been mentally “scattered” for 80 years. So it makes her a not so menacing of a villain.

Though I do love Jago and Litefoot in the 1960s, it will be fascinating to follow them through time. Jago is a TV star, Litefoot runs a bookshop, and Ellie owns the Red Tavern in the 60s. So now they get to have adventures in other times, flitting about in the time cabinet of Magnus Greel! That is a very exciting prospect though we know that the cabinet won’t be their home like the TARDIS is the Doctor’s home. Too cramped!

This story winds its way towards a conclusion with some good storylines – Miss Godiva does a magical act and spirits away Ellie. And Sergeant Sacker gets wrapped up in their adventures as well, though he’s almost along for the ride. But there is a lot of talking and trying to be menacing but it doesn’t really come off as scary. The finale just didn’t feel all that scary, to be honest. But it did leave me wanting more! So on to season 6. Hurray!
